Reclaim — Privacy

Reclaim is built so that almost nothing about you leaves your phone. This page says exactly what does, what happens to it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Who is responsible for this

Reclaim is made by Jamie Hosking, a sole trader in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the small amount of information described below. The way to reach us about anything on this page is support@reclaimsupport.co.uk.

There are no accounts

You do not sign up, and you are not asked for your email, your phone number or your date of birth. Reclaim has no idea who you are, and there is nothing to log into.

What stays on your phone

All of this is stored on the device and is never sent anywhere:

• your journal entries and anything you write during a craving
• every craving session, how long it lasted and how it went
• what you are working on, and what you have logged as a slip
• the money or time you have saved
• your name, if you gave one, and the colours you chose
• the patterns the app notices — those are worked out on the device

Reminders are scheduled by your phone. Nothing is registered with a push service and no server is told when you are nudged.

What leaves your phone, and only this

If you talk to Nell or Theo, that conversation is sent to our server and on to Anthropic, who run the model that writes the reply. What is sent is: the messages in that conversation, which companion you chose, your first name if you gave one, and the country your phone is set to — so the right emergency number can be named. Nothing else. Not your journal, not your sessions, not your count.

Talking to the companion is entirely optional, and the app tells you on that screen that what you type there is sent. Choosing to send a message is how you agree to that message being sent. You can stop at any time by not using the chat; everything else in the app keeps working.

Some messages never leave at all

If you write something suggesting you might be in danger, Reclaim recognises it on the phone and answers there, with real helplines. That message is not sent anywhere — not to our server, not to Anthropic. This is deliberate, and it is tested.

What our server keeps

Nothing you write. No messages, no replies, no names — none of it is logged or stored. The server keeps only:

• a count of how many messages an install has sent, so costs stay bounded
• a random identifier the app made up, which is attached to that count and to nothing else
• a key your iPhone created to prove requests come from the real app, and the date any subscription runs out

None of these say who you are. The app's identifier is generated on your phone, is not your device ID, and does not follow you between apps.

Our server runs on Cloudflare, who handle the connection and therefore see the IP address a request comes from, as any website does.

Why we are allowed to do this

Under UK data protection law we have to tell you our lawful basis for each thing we do.

• Sending your chat messages to be answered — your consent, given by choosing to use the companion and send a message. Because what people write in that chat can say something about their health, we treat it as needing your explicit agreement rather than anything weaker. You can withdraw it by not using the chat, and there is nothing kept afterwards to delete.
• Counting messages per install, and checking requests come from the real app — our legitimate interest in not having the service abused or the costs run away with. It uses no information about you.
• Recording that a subscription is live — necessary to provide what you paid for.

Where it goes

Anthropic, who write the companion's replies, are in the United States. That transfer is covered by the terms we have with them, which include the safeguards UK law requires for sending personal data outside the UK. Cloudflare, who host our server, operate globally and route requests through whichever location is nearest to you.

Nothing else goes anywhere.

How long anything is kept

• On your phone — until you delete it. Nothing expires by itself, and "Start over" erases all of it.
• Message counts on our server — a couple of days for the hourly and daily ones, about two months for the monthly one, then they delete themselves.
• The key and the subscription date — until the app is removed or reset.
• Your conversation — not kept by us at all. Anthropic hold it for their own limited period under their terms.

Subscriptions

Payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card, your name or your Apple Account. Apple gives the app a signed receipt, and our server keeps only the date it expires.

Without a subscription you keep the craving button and the way through it, three journal entries, and the helplines. The helplines are never behind a payment, whatever else changes.

There is no tracking

No analytics, no advertising, no third-party trackers, no profiling. Nothing about your use of the app is sold or shared, because nothing about it is collected.

What you can ask for

You have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to what we do with it, to have it handed to somebody else in a portable form, and to withdraw consent at any time.

In practice most of these you can do yourself, faster than we could:

• A copy of everything — Settings, then Your data, then Take a copy. It gives you the lot, as a file, in seconds.
• Erasing everything — Settings, then Your data, then start over. It deletes it from the phone permanently, and nothing is kept elsewhere to restore it from.
• Withdrawing consent for the chat — stop using it. There is nothing on our side to delete.

If you would rather ask us, write to support@reclaimsupport.co.uk. We will answer within a month. The honest answer is likely to be that we hold nothing that could be connected to you — the identifiers on our server are random and attached to no name, so we usually cannot tell which ones are yours even if we wanted to.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled this

Please tell us first, at support@reclaimsupport.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Children

Reclaim is for adults, and is rated 18+. It is not designed for or directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If this changes, the date at the top changes. Anything that meaningfully alters what leaves your phone will be said in the app, not only here.
